Tech uses second half to win eighth consecutive

CINCINNATI, Ohio -- WVU Tech men's basketball picked up their eighth consecutive win after a strong second half helped them pull away from Cincinnati Christian University for an 86-84 River States Conference (RSC) victory. The Golden Bears, who are currently ranked No. 22 in the nation (NAIA DII), now hold a record of 17-5, 10-1 (RSC) while the Eagles fall to 6-16, 3-7 (RSC).

Tech went into the second half trailing Cincinnati Christian 47-35 before a 51-point effort gave them the edge and the win. Senior Ra'Shaud Kincaid opened up from beyond the arc in the final half, going 4-for-5 (5-for-7 overall) towards his 17 points.

Kincaid currently holds the top spot in the nation (NAIA DII) with a .540 three-point field goal percentage. The South Charleston, West Virginia native also holds a No. 6 ranking in assist/turnover ratio, 3.769.

Junior Ryan Atkins led all scorers with 30 points including a 15-for-17 effort from the foul line. Atkins also pulled down a game-high nine rebounds in 36 minutes of play.

Fellow classmate Elisha Boone poured in 11 points on 5-for-7 shooting from the field while dishing three assists and marking three rebounds. Kincaid also finished with three assists in the win.

Tech's top offensive contributors were rounded out by junior Michael Scott who posted ten points, four rebounds and a game-best three blocks.

The Eagles were led on offense by Khari Burton who had 29 points on 9-for-18 shooting while Jalen Robertson dominated the boards for CCU with eight rebounds.

The team continued their efficient offense, shooting 50 percent (28-for-56) from the floor, 60 percent (9-for-15) from three-point range and 72 percent (21-for-29) from the bonus line.

Tech held the advantage in rebounds, 36-29 including 13 offensive boards. The Gold and Blue also held the Eagles to just 25 percent (3-for-12) shooting from the three-point range the second half.

The Gold and Blue currently hold six top-five rankings in the nation (NAIA DII) including No. 2 for total rebound margin (12.429), No. 4 in scoring margin (16.667) and offensive rebounds per game (14.762) and No. 5 in total rebound defense (31.095), total rebounds per game (43.524) and in three-point field goal percentage defense (0.305).

WVU Tech will continue conference play tomorrow, Saturday when they travel to Indiana University Kokomo for a 3 p.m. tipoff.
