OWENSBORO, Kentucky --Â The WVU Tech men's soccer team came away with a shutout River States Conference (RSC) victory over Brescia University, 5-0, Saturday afternoon. The Golden Bears boost their record to 2-6-2, 1-0-1 (RSC) while the Bearcats move to 3-8, 0-2 (RSC).
The Gold and Blue saw goals from sophomores
Jesus Naves (18' and 19') and
Sergio Sanchez (77' and 83') and senior
Francisco Neto (31'). The classmates, Naves and Sanchez, now both lead the team with three scores each in 2017.
Juniors
Santiago Cruz and
Matias Pazos, sophomore
Alvaro Tina and Sanchez recorded an assist each. Pazos now has two assists this year while Cruz and Tina marked their first this season.
Freshman
Jose Domingo Xam-mar (2-2) was credited the win in goal after five saves and 45 minutes of play. Sophomore
Jorge Martinez protected the net the second half, stopping three balls for Tech.
The team outshot their opponent 15 (14) - 8 (8) while also holding the advantage in corner kicks, 5-3.
WVU Tech will stay in Beckley, West Virginia this week for Homecoming, hosting Indiana University East on Thursday, October 5 and Ohio Christian University on Saturday, October 7.
