BECKLEY, West Virginia -- Senior
Francisco Neto earned his second hat trick of the season in WVU Tech's 8-0 shutout victory over Carlow University Saturday afternoon during River States Conference (RSC) action. The Golden Bears boost their record to 6-7-2, 5-1-1 (RSC) while the Celtics move to 0-14-2, 0-6-1 (RSC).
Tech saw five goal scorers in the win including three from Neto (9', 14', 64'). Junior
Murray Kinnaird marked two goals (15', 84') while fellow classmate
Santiago Cruz (19'), senior
Mark Magallanes (32') and sophomore
Sergio Sanchez (60') had one each.
The Golden Bears' assists were credited to junior
Matias Pazos, sophomores
Alvaro Tina and
Eduardo Gutierrez (2) and Sanchez (2).
Sophomore keeper
Jorge Martinez (2-1) earned the shutout win protecting the goal after 45 minutes of play. Freshman
Jose Domingo Xam-mar made one save for the Gold and Blue in the second half.
As a team, Tech tallied 23 shots on goal including a game-high five from Neto. Gutierrez finished with two on frame while Kinnaird, Sanchez and Pazos had two each.
Tech will take a break from conference play on Monday, October 23 when they host Salem International University.
