PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania -- The WVU Tech men's basketball team won a battle over Carlow University, 86-75, in its first River States Conference (RSC) game of the season Wednesday evening at Oakland Catholic High School.
The Celtics (0-5, 0-1 RSC) controlled the majority of the contest, leading, 48-40, at halftime and taking a 9-point advantage with 14:54 to play. However, WVU Tech (6-3, 1-0 RSC) came from behind to take the final lead with 9:01 remaining.
The Golden Bears had five players score in double figures, led by
Thomas Collins with 21 points and eight rebounds.
Michael Scott had a double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Tamon Scruggs had 14 points while
Andreas Jönsson and
Brent Daniels had 10 points apiece.
The difference in the contest came at the foul line. The Golden Bears went to the stripe 24 times to Carlow's 11. WVU Tech converted 79.2 percent of those free throws (19-24), while the Celtics made just 36.4 percent of theirs (4-11).
Tech next travels to Point Park University for a scheduled 3 p.m. tipoff this Saturday, December 2.Â
