Softball drops two at Grizzly Classic

LAWRENCEVILLE, Georgia — WVU Tech softball dropped a pair of games in Lawrenceville, Georgia Saturday afternoon after facing (RV) Brenau University and Montreat College to kick off their 2017 campaign. The Golden Bears fell in game one to the Golden Tigers, 6-2 and lost the nightcap, 10-9 to the Cavaliers.

Tech will finish out the Grizzly Classic tomorrow, Sunday when they face Brenau again (10 a.m.) and host school No. 13 Georgia Gwinnett College (3 p.m.)

Seniors Genna Trippett and Adriana Rosendo and freshman Chelsey Adkins had a hit each to total Tech's three hits in the game. Rosendo hit a double and stole a base while her and Adkins also recorded a run each.

In the circle, senior Mackenzie Wilson faced six batters for the loss, scattering five hits and one earned run. Freshman Katrina Atanacio drew the start, striking out five batters while giving up seven hits and walking two batters.

As a team, Tech went 11-for-32 at the plate and recorded eight RBI, including 3-for-4 efforts from freshman Ashley Daniels and junior Kayla Harbin. Harbin, Daniels and senior Lexi Huck notched a double each while Daniels and Huck brought in two runs a piece.

The remaining RBI were credited to Harbin, junior Hannah Calhoun, freshman Kayte Blandford and senior MaKayla Waugh. Huck marked a stolen base for the Golden Bears.

Wilson suffered the loss again, giving up two earned runs and four hits while striking out three Cavaliers. Trippett saw 2.1 innings of action, giving up three earned runs and three hits while sophomore Kaitlyn Sisler pitched 0.2 innings towards two earned runs and three hits.
