Golden Bears compete at Grizzly Classic

LAWRENCEVILLE, Georgia -- WVU Tech softball lost a pair of games Sunday afternoon to complete the four-game weekend at the Grizzly Classic hosted by No. 13 Georgia Gwinnett College. The Golden Bears dropped game one, 4-0, to (RV) Brenau University before falling in game two, 22-0 (five innings), to the host school.

Tech now holds a record of 0-4 in this young season while the Golden Tigers move to 10-2 and the Grizzlies boost their record to 7-2. The Golden Bears fell to Brenau (6-2) and Montreat College (10-9) on Saturday to kick off their 2017 campaign.

Junior MaKayla Waugh marked Tech's lone hit in the loss.

Freshman Karina Atanacio pitched 1.1 innings, scattering seven hits and five earned runs for the loss.

Senior Mackenzie Wilson threw for 2.2 innings, giving up nine hits and two earned runs.

Waugh's double was the only hit the Gold and Blue produced in the final game of the Grizzly Classic.

Atanacio was dealt the loss again after pitching 6.0 innings. The Middletown, Delaware native gave up eight hits and two earned runs while striking out one Grizzly.

The team will look to snap its losing streak when it travels to Hartsville, South Carolina for the Coker Spring Tournament February 25-26.

During the tournament, hosted by Coker College, Tech will face University of Charleston, Columbus State University, King University and Fairmont State University.
