MONTGOMERY, West Virginia -- The No. 2 seed (East Division) WVU Tech men's basketball team bested No. 3 (West Division) Asbury University in an 88-66 effort during a quarterfinal of the River States Conference (RSC) Tournament Wednesday evening.
Play started at 7 p.m. at the Baisi Athletic Center in Montgomery, West Virginia in front of a gold rush of Golden Bear fans. Both teams recognized their Champions of Character in WVU Tech's senior
Ra'Shaud Kincaid and Asbury's Tyler Smith.
The RSC Men's Basketball Champions of Character Team was selected with one player from each school chosen who best exhibits the five character values of the NAIA's Champions of Character program of respect, responsibility, integrity, servant leadership and sportsmanship.
Tech saw another outstanding performance from junior
Elisha Boone who finished with a double-double of 23 points and 13 rebounds, both game-bests. Boone also put out four assists, had two steals and blocked two Eagles' balls.
Fellow classmate
Ryan Atkins poured in 22 points on an 8-for-14 effort from the field. Atkins, who was a perfect 6-for-6 from the foul line, also marked seven rebounds and a team-high five assists.
Junior
Michael Scott was 3-for-5 from beyond the arc towards his 13 points while grabbing five boards and recording two blocks. Junior
Kievonn Banks ended with 12 points and five boards while Kincaid had nine points in the win.
Up next, WVU Tech will face No. 1 seed (West Division) Indiana University Southeast (23-5) on Saturday, February 25 in New Albany, Indiana. Tipoff for the tournament semifinal is scheduled for 3 p.m.
In their last meeting, Tech ended up on top with an 87-67 win on January 6 in Montgomery, West Virginia.
