Game Recap: Baseball | | Becky Brouse

Baseball splits 1-1 Saturday in Mount Vernon, Georgia

MOUNT VERNON, Georgia -- WVU Tech baseball split 1-1 Saturday after they defeated host school Brewton-Parker College 7-2 before falling to (RV) Southeastern University 9-2. The Golden Bears hold a record of 2-2 now in this young season after a four-game road trip in Mount Vernon, Georgia.

Freshman Michael Rotenberry saw five innings of action on the mound, earning the win against the Barons after striking out five batters and five Golden Bears earned a RBI each in the win. In Tech's loss, senior Doug Prather drove in both runs for the Golden Bears.

Rotenberry drew the start on the mound where he faced 22 batters, allowing two earned runs and walking three. Senior Jarron Monroe finished the game, pitching 2.0 innings, marking two strike outs and allowing just one hit.

At bat, senior Tanner Levine had a game-high two hits while junior Ryan Eusebio had a game-best two runs scored.

Prather, Eusebio, seniors Brady Groesbeck, Marcus Rodriguez and Chris Davidson had a RBI each. Junior Wyatt Belinda, Eusebio, Groesbeck Prather and Levine recorded a stolen base each.

The Golden Bears had six hits in the loss, including two from Levine. Prather produced the only two RBI that drove in runs scored by Groesbeck and freshman Jacob Reimold.

Senior Alex Kotheimer went 1-for-3 at the plate with a double.

Senior Jayson Sykora (0-1) was dealt the loss after pitching 3.1 innings, striking out three players and giving up four earned runs. Monroe (2.2 innings) and freshman Nathan Plumb (1.0 innings) also threw from the mound for the Gold and Blue.

Next weekend, Tech will continue road play when they travel to St. Andrews University to play a three game series February 11-12 in Laurinburg, North Carolina.
