Gold and Blue drop #RSCgotw to Rio Grande, 82-74

MONTGOMERY, West Virginia -- WVU Tech women's basketball dropped the River States Conference Game of the Week to University of Rio Grande, 82-74, in the Baisi Athletic Center Saturday afternoon. The Golden Bears move to 16-9, 8-5 (RSC) this season while the RedStorm hold a record of 17-9, 8-5 (RSC).

Earlier this season when the teams met, Tech came away with the win, 86-72 on January 14 in Rio Grande, Ohio. The teams are now both 3.5 games back from No. 21 IU East (13-1 RSC) to give them the No. 2 spot in the East Division of the conference.

Senior Cheyanna Lusk had a standout game, including a perfect 12-for-12 effort from the bonus line towards her game-high 27 points. The Cyclone, West Virginia native also dished seven assists, grabbed seven boards and took four steals.

Junior Zjhane West was Tech's next leading scorer, pouring in 16 points after 31 minutes of play. West also had six rebounds, four steals and three assists.

Senior Brooke Gee produced nine points and five rebounds while sophomores Alexandra Combs and Savannah Shamblin had eight points each.

The team was held to just 36.5 percent (23-for-63) shooting from the field and 15.8 percent (3-for-19) from three-point range. The RedStorm outrebounded Tech, 46-26 but the Golden Bears held the advantage in turnovers, 14-26.

Tech will continue conference play when they hit the road to face Ohio Christian University Tuesday, February 7.
