Tech's streak snapped by RSC opponent Point Park

MOORESVILLE, North Carolina -- River States Conference (RSC) members WVU Tech and Point Park baseball met Friday for a doubleheader in Mooresville, North Carolina at Moore Park, home of the Mooresville Spinners of the Carolina-Virginia Collegiate League.

The Golden Bears (10-10, 4-2 RSC) seven-game winning streak was snapped after falling to the Pioneers (8-6, 3-3 RSC) 12-3 in game one followed by a 7-3 loss in the night cap.

The team totaled six hits including a home run from senior Chris Davidson and a double from fellow classmate Alex Kotheimer.

Davidson's long ball yielded him two RBI by also crossing freshman Jacob Reimold.

Tech's other RBI went to senior Tanner Levine who had a single in the third that scored senior Doug Prather.

Sophomore Kurt Latocha, courtesy runner for senior catcher Trevor Lam, earned a stolen base.

Freshman Nathan Plumb (0-1) pitched for one inning to earn the loss. Plumb gave up just one hit and one earned run.

Junior Jerod Jobst drew the start, throwing for 3.0 innings, scattering four hits and three earned runs while striking out three Pioneers.

Senior Sebastian Gomez Herrera, who threw for 2.0 innings, and Latocha, after one inning, recorded a strike out each.

All of Tech's runs came in the third inning including a double RBI from Herrera's single that drove in Davidson and Kotheimer.

Before Herrera's effort, a single from Kotheimer drove in Prather who reached on a double.

Kotheimer finished 3-for-4 at the plate while Herrera and Prather recorded two hits each.

Davidson ended with a stolen base and a run scored in the loss.

On the mound, Junior Dalton Grisell (0-1) suffered the loss after giving up three hits and three earned runs.

Senior Jayson Sykora started for the Golden Bears, striking out three Pioneers while giving up three hits and zero earned runs.

The teams will complete the four-game series tomorrow, Saturday at Moore Park. The first pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 12 p.m.
