Tech earns shutout, splits doubleheader with Point Park

MOORESVILLE, North Carolina -- WVU Tech and Point Park University baseball finished a four-game River States Conference (RSC) series at Moore Park, home of the Mooresville Spinners, in Mooresville, North Carolina Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Bears (11-11, 5-3 RSC) fell in game one 10-4 before shutting out the Pioneers, 7-0, in the final game. Point Park took the series, 3-1.

In the nightcap, redshirt-junior Garrison Vandeventer earned his fourth save of the season after three innings of work on the mound. Vandeventer is currently tied for ninth in the nation (NAIA DI) for four total saves.

Tech's first score came in the third when senior Doug Prather crossed the plate after freshman Jacob Reimold reached base on balls for the RBI.

The team scored twice in the fourth inning including a RBI for junior Abraham Alejandro off a double that crossed Prather and a single from senior Alex Kotheimer that drove in Alejandro.

Senior Brady Groesbeck earned a RBI for Tech's final run when a ground out to shortstop drove in fellow classmate Marcus Rodriguez.

Alejandro and Prather led the team at the plate with two hits each while Alejandro marked a RBI and run scored and Prather crossed the plate twice.

Senior Chris Davidson (3-2) drew the start and pitched 3.2 innings for the loss. Davidson gave up nine hits and five earned runs while striking out three Pioneers.

Game Two | WVU Tech 7, Point Park 0 | Box Score

Vandeventer (1-1-4) gave up two hits and walked one Pioneer for the save. The Ocala, Florida native is 1-0-2 and has a ERA of 0.00 in his last three appearances.

Senior Jarron Monroe (1-1) earned the start and the win after four innings of work, giving up just two hits while retiring four batters via strikes.

Davidson stood out at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 including a double and a homerun in the win. Davidson also marked two RBI and two runs scored.

Reimold, Alejandro and senior Tanner Levine also had a multi-hit game, recording two hits each.

Reimold posted a double, two RBI and a run scored while Alejandro had a double and drove a run in and Levine had a RBI and run scored.

Senior Sebastian Gomez Herrera also marked a RBI off a single in the third that scored Reimold.

Up next, WVU Tech will host Alderson Broaddus University in a non-conference nine-inning game in Beckley, West Virginia at Linda K. Epling Stadium on Wednesday, March 15.
