OWENSBORO, Kentucky -- WVU Tech baseball swept the River States Conference (RSC) series, 4-0, at Brescia University Saturday and Sunday. The Golden Bears (15-11, 9-3 RSC) defeated the Bearcats (2-14, 0-9 RSC) with scores of 3-1, 3-2, 4-0 and 9-4.
The winning pitchers that were credited include junior
Jerod Jobst (game one) and seniors
Marcus Rodriguez (game two),
Jarron Monroe (game three) and
Chris Davidson (game four). Redshirt-junior
Garrison Vandeventer also marked his fifth save of the season in the 3-2 victory of game two.
Jobst drew the series start and threw 6.0 innings for the Golden Bears. He finished with three strikeouts while scattering five hits and one earned run. Vandeventer closed out game one, retiring one Bearcat via strikes.
Game two saw a start from senior
Jayson Sykora who gave up two hits and two earned runs while striking out two after 1.2 innings of work. Rodriguez recorded 3.0 innings on the mound, pitching for two hits and zero earned runs while striking out four batters. Vandeventer earned the save after 2.1 innings, one hit, zero earned runs and two strikeouts.
The shutout in game three was earned by Monroe who threw a complete game. Monroe struck out five opponents while giving up just three hits.
The final win of the game was pitched by Davidson for 6.0 innings. Davidson recorded the victory after giving up seven hits and three earned runs while striking out two batters. Junior
Dalton Grisell finished out the game, giving up two hits and no earned runs.
At the plate, the series was led by seniors
Brady Groesbeck and
Tanner Levine. The two finished with six hits and a series batting average of .462.
Groesbeck scored three runs and marked four RBI while Levine recorded three runs scored, a double and two RBI.
Up next Tech will host University of Charleston tomorrow, Tuesday at Power Park in Charleston, West Virginia at 6 p.m.
