Baseball drops midweek doubleheader to Bluefield

BECKLEY, West Virginia -- WVU Tech baseball met with Bluefield College at Linda K. Epling Stadium in Beckley, West Virginia Wednesday for a midweek doubleheader. The Golden Bears (16-17) fell in game one 8-2 before dropping the final contest 6-2 to the Rams (19-12).

The Golden Bears managed seven hits in the loss including a perfect 3-for-3 effort at the dish for senior Tanner Levine.

Fellow senior Doug Prather also had a multi-hit game, marking two while scoring both runs.

Freshman Jacob Reimold and senior Chris Davidson had a hit each. Reimold produced a RBI while junior Wyatt Belinda also recorded a RBI.

Junior Nick Brumfield (1-2) drew the start on the mound and threw for 3.2 innings in the loss. Brumfield gave up six hits and one earned run while striking out two batters.

Senior Marcus Rodriguez put in 2.0 innings of work for five hits, four earned runs and two strike outs. Freshman Nathan Plumb finished out the game, scattering two hits and one earned run.

Levine had another standout game at the plate, finishing 3-for-4  and with a run scored to combine for a 6-for-7 showing on the day.

Freshman Brian Schack produced two hits and a RBI for the Golden Bears.

Senior Jayson Sykora drove in a run off of a single to right field in the fourth inning.

Freshman Michael Rotenberry (1-1) earned the loss on the mound after 1.2 innings. Rotenberry struck out one Ram while giving up four hits and four earned runs.

Junior Dalton Grisell and Belinda threw in the night cap and recorded a strike out each.

Tech will return to River States Conference (RSC) play this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, when they host Midway University for a four-game series in East Bank, West Virginia.
