EAST BANK, West Virginia -- WVU Tech baseball kicked off their River States Conference play with two victories over Cincinnati Christian University Saturday afternoon. The Golden Bears (6-8, 2-0 RSC) took game one 4-2 before defeating the Eagles (3-8, 0-2 RSC) 3-2 in the night cap at Douglas M. Epling Field.
Seniors
Brady Groesbeck and
Tanner Levine both had a standout day at the plate. Groesbeck combined for three hits, two doubles, two RBI and a run scored while Levine knocked a home run, a double, totaled three hits, scored two runs and marked a RBI.
On the mound, redshirt junior
Garrison Vandeventer (0-1-2) earned two saves after two innings of work total. Vandeventer scattered three hits and one earned run while striking out two Eagles Saturday.

The Golden Bears were trailing 2-0 in the fifth inning when a triple from senior
Trevor Lam drove in junior
Chris Davidson to start Tech's comeback.
Junior
Marcus Rodriguez followed that with a single that drove in courtesy runner and fellow classmate
Abraham Alejandro.
In the bottom of the sixth, the double from Groesbeck let Alejandro score again and a Cincinnati Christian error allowed Groesbeck to cross the plate for the fourth and final run of the game.

Wyatt Belinda finished 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the team. Junior
Tanner Levine, Groesbeck, Lam and Rodriguez posted a hit each.
Davidson marked his third stolen base of the season.

Jerod Jobst moves to 2-0 on the mound after pitching 6.0 innings. Jobst struck out three Eagles while scattering eight hits and two earned runs.
Vandeventer (0-1-1) earned his first save as a Golden Bear while pitching the final inning, giving up just one hit and retiring one batter.

Tech got on the board first with Levine's lead off home run in the bottom of the third. A home run from Cincinnati Christian's James Cathey knotted the game in the fourth inning.
Singles from Groesbeck (fifth inning) and junior
Wyatt Belinda (sixth inning) drove in Levine and Rodriguez respectively to give the Gold and Blue a 3-1 lead and the eventual victory, 3-2.
Levine finished 2-for-3, including a double and a home run, at the plate with one RBI and two runs scored.
Groesbeck also tallied two hits to go with a RBI. Davidson marked a double and finished a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate with a stolen base.
Senior
Jayson Sykora (1-2) earned the win after facing 21 batters during 5.0 innings of work. Sykora retired six batters via strikes while giving up just three hits and one earned run.
Junior
Dalton Grisell recorded a strikeout on the mound after an inning of work and Vandeventer pitched for the save, striking out one while giving up two hits and one earned run.
The teams will complete the four-game series tomorrow, Sunday in East Bank, West Virginia. The first pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 12:05 p.m.
