CLERMONT, Florida -- WVU Tech softball earned their first victory of the 2017 campaign with a 1-0 score over Calumet College of St. Joseph to kick off Spring Break play at the PFX Games in Clermont, Florida Sunday afternoon. The Golden Bears then dropped the final game of the day to Hannibal-LaGrange University, 3-8.
In Sunday's win, freshman
Karina Atanacio scored Tech's winning run and pitched a complete game for the Golden Bears.

Off a single from junior
MaKayla Waugh, who finished 2-for-2 at the plate, Atanacio crossed the plate in the second inning for Tech's winning run.
Atanacio (1-4) pitched a complete game for her first collegiate win in the circle. The Middletown, Delaware native struck out four batters and gave up six hits.

Senior
Lexi Huck propelled her third career and first home run of the season in the second inning for Tech's first score.
Runs two and three came from a single hit by junior
Kayla Harbin that drove in Waugh and sophomore
Skylar Connelly.
Connelly finished with two hits including a double in the loss while Harbin also marked two hits to go with two RBI.
In the circle, senior
Genna Trippett (0-2) pitched 3.1 innings for the loss. Trippett struck out two batters while giving up four hits and one earned run.
Freshman
Sydney Smith drew the start, putting in 2.2 innings of work, scattering three hits and two earned runs while retiring two batters via strikes.
The Gold and Blue will continue play at the PFX Games tomorrow, Monday when they face Grace College and Marian University.
