Softball drops two at Purdue Northwest

HAMMOND, Indiana -- WVU Tech softball dropped two non-league road games to Purdue Northwest Friday afternoon in Hammond, Indiana. The Golden Bears (14-33) fell in game one, 8-0, after five innings before the Pride (28-21-1) took the final contest, 1-0.

The Gold and Blue will finish out their regular season on Sunday, April 30 when they travel to face No. 19 University of Rio Grande for a River States Conference (RSC) doubleheader.

Tech is currently in a four-way tie for second in the conference standings with Midway University, Indiana University Southeast and Point Park University. All four teams hold a record of 10-6 while Rio Grande, who is in the top spot, is 15-1 in conference play.

Tech tallied four hits in the loss including one each from junior Kayla Harbin, seniors Genna Trippett and Lexi Huck and freshman Karina Atanacio.

In the circle, Trippett was given the loss after 1.2 innings of work. Trippett gave up seven hits and eight earned runs.

Freshman Sydney Smith threw for three innings, giving up five hits.

The two hits for WVU Tech were credited to sophomore Skylar Connelly and junior MaKayla Waugh.

Senior Mackenzie Wilson pitched a complete game, scattering four hits and zero earned runs while striking out three batters.
