WVU Tech splits with Glenville State Wednesday

SOUTH CHARLESTON, West Virginia -- WVU Tech softball split a doubleheader with NCAA DII Glenville State College Wednesday afternoon at Little Creek Park in South Charleston, West Virginia. The Golden Bears (8-25) took game one 5-2 before falling to the Pioneers (10-22) 8-6 in the final contest.

Senior Mackenzie Wilson pitched a complete game for the win, striking out five batters while giving up just two earned runs. The W in the circle marks the second consecutive complete game and victory after a start for the Owings Mills, Maryland native.

Senior Lexi Huck and junior Kayla Harbin finished 2-for-3 at the plate with a double each while Huck marked two RBI and Harbin posted a run scored.

Sophomore Skylar Connelly and juniors MaKayla Waugh and Kayla Jones had a RBI each for the Golden Bears.

On the bases, sophomores Hannah Calhoun and Sarah Dohn and Jones had a steal each.

Wilson, who walked just one Pioneer, has now struck out 26 batters in 2017 including a season-high five on Wednesday afternoon.

Game Two | Glenville State 8, WVU Tech 6 | Box Score

Tech managed 14 hits including four doubles in the night cap loss. The doubles were credited to Connelly, Waugh, Harbin and freshman Madeline Olson.

Waugh finished a perfect 4-for-4 at the dish to go with two RBI and a run scored to lead the team.

Connelly was 3-for-4 with two runs scored while Jones also had a multi-hit game, recording two with a run scored and a RBI.

Sophomore Kaitlyn Sisler drew the start in the circle, scattering three hits and three earned runs while striking out one batter after one inning.

Freshman Karina Atanacio (4-9) threw six innings for the loss, giving up five hits and five earned runs while retiring six Pioneers via strikes.

The team will return to River States Conference (RSC) play on Friday when they host Asbury University in Smithers, West Virginia for two games.
