POCA, West Virginia -- WVU Tech softball split a River States Conference (RSC) doubleheader with Midway University Saturday afternoon at Poca High School. The Golden Bears (11-26, 7-5 RSC) fell in game one 1-6 before a three-run home run from sophomore
Skylar Connelly helped propel Tech in the final contest, 4-3, over the Eagles (13-13, 7-3 RSC).
Connelly finished the day with three hits towards a double, home run, three RBI and two runs scored. The Ottawa, Illinois native also marked her sixth stolen base of the season in the win.
Tech (7-5) is currently No. 4 in the conference standings and is sitting four games back from University of Rio Grande (10-0) in the top spot while Midway (7-3) is tied for second with Point Park University (6-2) at three games back.

The team totaled four hits in the opener including one each from Connelly, senior
Genna Trippett, sophomore
Sarah Dohn and junior
Kayla Jones.
Tech's run unfolded after a single from Trippett brought in freshman
Karina Atanacio to run. Atanacio then grabbed a stolen base before a sacrifice fly to left field from freshman
Madeline Olson crossed Atanacio for a run.
Senior
Mackenzie Wilson drew the start in the circle, striking out two Eagles while giving up six earned runs after five innings of work.
Freshman
Sydney Smith threw for two innings to finish out the game, allowing three hits.

Connelly and junior
Kayla Harbin had a multi-hit game, recording two each. Connelly's three-run home run gave her three RBI while a a single to center field from Harbin produced her RBI. The Harbin single crossed Connelly at the plate.
Jones knocked a double in the game and scored a run for the Golden Bears.
Atanacio started and pitched for four innings towards two strike outs, two earned runs and five hits.
Smith (1-2) recorded her first collegiate win in the circle, throwing for three innings. The Parkersburg, West Virginia native retired two Eagles via strikes while scattering one hit and one earned run.
The Gold and Blue will take a break from conference play to face Bluefield College, first in Smithers, West Virginia (April 14) for two before heading to Bluefield, Virginia (April 18) for a doubleheader.
