Volleyball finishes 2-0 at #WVUTech Tri-Match

BECKLEY, West Virginia -- The Golden Bear volleyball team started the season with a pair of victories Saturday at the WVU Tech Tri-Match, defeating both University of Cincinnati Clermont (3-0) and Alice Lloyd College (3-0). The wins give the Gold and Blue a quick 2-0 winning record to begin their 2017 campaign.

Sophomore Konstantina Pateli combined for 68 assists and seven aces to help lead Tech Saturday. The Athens, Greece native also had a hitting percentage of .727 (8-for-11) while picking up 11 digs total.

Junior Ana Monteiro (10) and senior Bailey Lotozo (9) helped lead the attack, combining for 19 kills. Freshman Lauren McCall put down six kills to kick off her collegiate career.

Pateli had 31 assists and four aces while sophomore Carolina Bologna had three and Monteiro served up one.

At the net, freshman Michaela Hall led with three blocks while Bologna had two. McCall, Pateli and freshman Sawyer Hawgood had six digs each on defense.

Tech outhit their opponent with 39 kills compared to their 27 while also leading in aces (10-5) and assists (38-25).

Match Two | WVU Tech 3, Alice Lloyd 0 | Box Score

Hall and freshman Ana Alonso led Tech with seven kills each while McCall and Bologna had six each.

Pateli handled the ball again, producing 37 assists while putting down three aces and two blocks.

Sophomore Emily Kidd also had two blocks while marking two kills. At libero, Hawgood led with ten digs.

Up next, Tech will host Bluefield College in Van Meter Gym on Tuesday, August 22.
