BECKLEY, West Virginia -- WVU Tech men's soccer dropped a double overtime battle to No. 8 Georgia Gwinnett College, 2-1, Saturday afternoon in Beckley, West Virginia. The Golden Bears are now 1-6-1 this season while the Grizzlies stay undefeated at 6-0-1.
Tech's unassisted goal came from junior
Matias Pazos who sent the ball past Georgia Gwinnett's keeper, Matija Gligorovic, in the 70
th minute.
The Grizzlies struck first when Ellis Husband marked the first goal of the game off the assist from Jack Gurr (63'). The golden goal came in the 117
th minute from Krishna Clarke who was assisted by S. Sampaio Gomes.
Freshman goalkeeper Jose Doming Xam-mar (1-2) had five saves in the loss while the Grizzlies' Gligorovic (5-0-1) was forced to stop six Tech attempts.
The teams were even with seven shots on frame each while Georgia Gwinnett held the advantage in corner kicks, 6-3.
The Gold and Blue will kickoff River States Conference (RSC) play next. The match-up is scheduled for Thursday, September 28 in Kentucky at Midway University.
