MIDWAY, Kentucky -- WVU Tech and Midway University men's soccer kicked off River States Conference (RSC) play this season with a double overtime draw of 3-3 in Kentucky Thursday evening. The Golden Bears move to 1-6-2, 0-0-1 (RSC) in 2017 while the Eagles hold a record of 3-2-1, 0-0-1 (RSC).
Tech's goals were credited to juniors
Santiago Cruz (35') and
Matias Pazos (51') and sophomore
Jesus Naves (53'). Cruz and Naves each recorded their first collegiate goal.
Senior
Francisco Neto was credited with two assists, to Cruz and Pazos, while sophomore
Eduardo Gutierrez sent the perfect pass to Naves for the assist.
The Gold and Blue finished with nine shots on goal compared to the Eagles' eight. Pazos led the team with three shots on frame while Gutierrez and Naves had two each.
Protecting the net, freshman
Jose Domingo Xam-mar (1-2-1) made five stops while allowing three goals in 110 minutes of play.
Midway's keeper, Christian Neira recorded six saves and three goals allowed.
Tech will continue conference play Saturday, September 30 when they travel to Brescia University for a 4 p.m. scheduled kickoff.
