#WVUTech finishes 3-1 at Marietta River City Classic

MARIETTA, Ohio -- WVU Tech volleyball has improved their record to 6-1 this season after finishing 3-1 during the Marietta River City Classic in Marietta, Ohio September 1-2. The Golden Bears defeated the College of Mount St. Joseph (3-0), Thiel College (3-0) and Oberlin College (3-0). They dropped a five-set contest to Hiram College, 3-2.

Sophomore outside hitter Carolina Bologna and freshman libero Sawyer Hawgood were named to the Marietta River City Classic All-Tournament Team for their efforts on the court. Bologna finished with 21 kills, 17 digs, six block solos, five block assists and two service aces. Hawgood picked up 70 digs to go with nine service aces for the Gold and Blue.

Freshman Lauren McCall put down 48 kills, including a career-high 20 against Hiram, and 42 digs while senior Bailey Lotozo totaled 40 kills and 29 digs over four matches.

Sophomore Konstantina Pateli, who currently ranks No. 6 in the nation (NAIA) for assists per game (10.880), dished out 145 assists at the Classic. Pateli also recorded 51 digs, six service aces, 12 kills and three block assists.

Tech returns to action Tuesday, September 5 when they host Appalachian Bible College in Van Meter Gym. The first serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
