BECKLEY, West Virginia -- Senior
Michael Scott finished with his 14
th double-double this campaign on senior day and WVU Tech finished the regular season with a 130-76 River States Conference (RSC) victory against Point Park University. The Golden Bears boost their record to 19-10, 12-5 (RSC) while the Pioneers move to 4-22, 1-16 (RSC).
On an efficient shooting day, 63.8 percent (51-for-80), Tech saw nine Golden Bears hit double figures including a team-best 21 points from freshman
Tamon Scruggs. Scruggs also had six rebounds. Scott finished 8-for-12 from the field towards 20 points to go with 12 rebounds, four assists and a block.
Junior
Brandon Shingles recorded a triple-double with 12 assists, 12 rebounds and 11 points. Fellow classmate
Thomas Collins poured in 16 points to go with five boards while freshman
Andreas Jönsson, on a 5-for-9 effort from three-point range, posted 15 points.
Juniors
Cole Schoolcraft (12),
Brent Daniels (12) and
Kevin Thomas-Griffin (10) and freshman
Dallas Jones (11) rounded out the team's top scorers. Schoolcraft also dished a game-best eight assists while Thomas-Griffin and Daniels had five each. Daniels, a Mount Hope, West Virginia native, also recorded his first double-double of the season with 12 boards.
The Gold and Blue held the Pioneers to just 36.4 percent (27-for-74) shooting from the floor while also dominating the boards, 58-22.
Up next, No. 2 East WVU Tech hosts No. 3 West Asbury University (17-11) for the first round of the RSC Tournament. The Golden Bears are scheduled to play the Eagles Wednesday, February 21 at 7:00 p.m. in the Beckley Raleigh County Convention Center. During the regular season, Tech defeated Asbury in Beckley, 91-90 (January 18).
