HARTSVILLE, South Carolina -- WVU Tech softball earned a 5-2 decision against NCAA DII Fairmont State University to kick off a four-game showing at the Coker Spring Tournament in Hartsville, South Carolina Saturday and Sunday.
The Golden Bears now hold a record of 1-7 this season after falling to University of Charleston (5-6, 8 Innings), Shepherd University (1-3) and King's College (1-13, 5 Innings).

The Gold and Blue posted four hits and two RBI towards five runs as a team. Senior
MaKayla Waugh led the way at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a double and two RBI for the Golden Bears.
Fellow classmate
Kayla Harbin also recorded a RBI while crossing the plate twice. Junior
Skylar Connelly posted a hit and a stolen base in the victory.

Olivia Morey also recorded a steal on the bases while Cahill scored two runs and Morey had one run scored.
In the circle, sophomore
Karina Atanacio (1-4) pitched a complete game for the win. Atanacio struck out five batters while giving up just one earned run.

Tech recorded 12 hits in the extra-inning loss including three from Waugh and two each from Connelly and senior
Hannah Calhoun. Connelly drove in three runs while Waugh and Calhoun had a RBI each.

McDonald (0-3) was dealt the loss after throwing six innings and striking out three batters. Freshman
Taylor Abshagen pitched for two innings, giving up three hits and a earned run.

The three hits credited to the Golden Bears were produced by Cahill, Morey and Lopez. Cahill and Connelly recorded a stolen base each while Connelly also scored Tech's lone run.
McDonald was in the circle for 5.2 innings, giving up four hits while striking out two batters. Abshagen (0-1) earned the loss after 0.1 innings, striking out one batter and giving up two hits and two earned runs.

Tech managed three hits in the loss, crediting one each to Lopez, Morey and freshman
Lauren Oxford.
The run was scored by Cahill who was driven in by Morey.
Atanacio gave up seven earned runs while striking out three batters in the loss after four innings. McDonald finished out the game, striking out two.
Tech will return to the field Sunday, March 4 when they travel to Montreat College for a doubleheader..
