Golden Bears drop two games against RedStorm

BECKLEY, West Virginia -- WVU Tech baseball dropped two games against the RedStorm in River States Conference (RSC) play Friday. The Golden Bears now hold a record of 6-21, 2-8 (RSC) while University of Rio Grande moves to 13-16, 7-3 (RSC).

Freshman Calen Owens reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Garrison Vandeventer for Tech's first run.

The final Golden Bear run was posted by junior Corey Lewis on a RedStorm passed ball.

Senior Wyatt Belinda posted a triple while Vandeventer knocked a double.

Sophomore Michael Rotenberry (0-4) was first to pitch, throwing for five innings towards four strike outs and the loss.

Junior Jarrod Woodyard and redshirt junior Ryan Bayle pitched an inning and struck out one RedStorm each.

Freshman Brett Linton (1-4) pitched five innings in game two towards one strike out and three earned runs.

Belinda went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Tech while juniors Sean Crosby, Juan Perez and freshman Bryton Dean added singles of their own.

Up next, the Gold and Blue will travel to Rio Grande on Sunday to finish up the three-game conference series.
