Softball splits RSC opener at Brescia

OWENSBORO, Kentucky -- WVU Tech softball opened their River States Conference (RSC) schedule with a doubleheader split at Brescia University Friday afternoon. The Golden Bears, who have won five of their last six contests, now hold a record of 7-17, 1-1 (RSC) while the Bearcats move to 3-7, 1-5 (RSC).

Junior Skylar Connelly tallied two of Tech's six hits while junior Kacie Cahill, seniors MaKayla Waugh and Hannah Calhoun and freshman Alix Lamana had one each. 

On the bases, Cahill also marked a steal.

In the circle, sophomore Amanda McDonald (2-8) pitched a complete game towards seven strike outs, five hits and two earned runs.

Game Two | WVU Tech 6, Brescia 3 | Box Score

Sophomore Karina Atanacio (2-7) earned her second win in the circle this season, pitching a complete game. The Middletown, Delaware native struck out five Bearcats.

Freshman Lauren Oxford was 2-for-4 at the plate towards two RBI and a double. Fellow classmate Olivia Morey also posted a double and scored two runs for the Gold and Blue.

Connelly drove in two runs while Cahill and senior Kayla Harbin marked a RBI each.

The team will continue conference play when they travel to Indiana University Southeast Sunday for a doubleheader.
