Late inning rallies lift Tech past Montreat for DH sweep

BECKLEY, West Virginia -- WVU Tech baseball earned two 4-3 victories over Montreat College Tuesday afternoon after staging sixth inning comebacks in both games. The Golden Bears have won their last three contests and improve to 9-22 overall while the Cavaliers hold a record of 12-19.

The Golden Bears trailed 0-3 until the bottom of the sixth when they rallied for four runs and the eventual victory.

Three runs were batted in for Tech, one each from Sean Crosby, Brian Schack and Alex Tennant.

Juan Perez finished 2-for-3 at the plate while Wyatt Belinda and Jacob Reimold both recorded a double.

Garrison Vandeventer (2-2) earned the W on the mound, pitching two innings towards two strike outs and zero earned runs.

Trey Dalton threw the first pitch and tossed for five innings towards four strike outs and two earned runs.

During the bottom of the sixth inning, a single to center field from Dariel Torres scored Reimold and Tech's second run.

A Cavalier throwing error then scored Torres and Corey Walker for runs three and four towards the win.

The team tallied four hits in game two including two from Torres and one each from Perez and Tennant.

Of the two RBI, Torres and Crosby were credited one a piece. Torres also marked a stolen base.

Calyb King (1-0-1) earned his first collegiate W on the bump, throwing for two innings towards two strike outs and one earned run.

Will Mullins drew the start, pitching four innings and retiring three Cavaliers via strikes. Belinda finished out the game for Tech, striking out one batter while giving up one hit.

The Gold and Blue will return to River States Conference play when they host Midway University Friday and Saturday in Beckley.
