Tech splits with NCAA DII Glenville State

Softball

GLENVILLE, West Virginia -- WVU Tech softball split a doubleheader at NCAA DII Glenville State College Wednesday with scores of 0-1 and 4-3. The Golden Bears boost their record to 11-25 while the Pioneers move to 18-20.

In a pitcher's battle, the teams combined for five hits including four from the Gold and Blue.

Freshman Alexis Lopez, seniors MaKayla Waugh and Kayla Harbin and sophomore Ashley Daniels each tallied a hit.

On the bases, Waugh and junior Kacie Cahill recorded a steal.

Sophomore Amanda McDonald (3-13-1) struck out six Pioneers while giving up just one hit and one run towards the complete game loss.

Daniels had a standout game at the plate, posting a double, RBI and a run scored.

Cahill knocked a triple and crossed the plate for Tech while Waugh finished 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Sophomore Karina Atanacio and freshman Alix Lamana drove a run in each and Atanacio also marked a run.

Atanacio (5-10) scored the win in the circle after tossing three innings towards three strike outs and two earned runs.

McDonald was awarded the save after throwing four innings, striking out two batters and giving up an earned run.

The team will play two more on Friday when they host Bluefield State for more non-conference action in Beckley, West Virginia.
