Tech shuts out Bluefield, 5-0, to stay undefeated

Men's Soccer

BECKLEY, West Virginia -- WVU Tech men's soccer is still undefeated in 2018 after earning a 5-0 shutout victory over Bluefield College Wednesday evening. The Golden Bears move to 6-0-1 while the Rams fall to 1-2 this season.

Junior Manuel Garcia started the scoring quickly for Tech, striking in minute three off the assist from fellow classmate Jesus Naves. That goal led to another one from Garcia just three minutes later, when he connected with junior Rolando Sanchez, for his third goal this year.

Naves then followed suit with back-to-back goals in minutes 11 and 38. His first score came off the assist from senior Sergio Sanchez while the second goal occurred because of junior Eduardo Gutierrez.

The Gold and Blue's final goal happened in the second half when junior Alvaro Tina converted on a penalty kick in the 74th minute.

The team tallied 11 shots on frame including three each from Garcia and Naves. The Rams' lone shot was recorded by Abel Bogale.

Junior Jose Domingo Xam-mar (6-0-1) defended Tech's net for 90 minutes for another W.

Bluefield's Sven Kleinhans is now 1-1 after allowing five goals and making four stops in the complete game.

The Golden Bears will stay at home Saturday when they host Mount Vernon Nazarene University at 3 p.m.
