PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania -- WVU Tech men's soccer blanked Carlow University 6-0 Thursday evening in River States Conference (RSC) action. The Golden Bears stay undefeated with a record of 8-0-3, 2-0 (RSC) while the Celtics move to 3-4, 0-3 (RSC).
Three goals were posted in the first half by Tech including two (13' and 26') from junior
Eduardo Gutierrez. The first score was recorded by fellow junior
Gavin Shiels in minute ten. All three assists in the first 45 minutes were credited to junior
Manuel Garcia.
Sophomore
Javaid Payne posted his first collegiate goal when he found the back of the net in the 48
th minute.
The final two goals of the contest came off penalty kicks from junior
Narhum Nivillac (70') then sophomore
Fernando Sendra (86'). The goals were also Golden Bear firsts for Nivillac and Sendra.
As a team, Tech recorded 16 shots on goal including two each from Gutierrez, Shiels, Nivillac, Sendra and
Pablo Muniz Rocandio. Carlow managed two shots on goal.
Junior goal keeper
Jorge Martinez (2-0) protected the goal for the complete 90 minutes and the win. The Burgos, Spain native stopped two Celtics' attempts.
Carlow's keeper, Adam Myers, was forced to stop ten Golden Bear shots on frame while allowing six goals in the complete game.
Tech will continue RSC play in Pittsburgh when they face Point Park University this Saturday at 8:30 p.m.
