  LAST TIME ON THE COURT
  • Golden Bear volleyball finished 3-1 after two days at the Marietta River City Classic in Ohio.
  • WVU Tech defeated the host school, Marietta College (3-1), Franciscan University (3-1) and Emory & Henry College (3-0) before falling to Earlham College (2-3).
  • The attack at the classic was led by senior Ana Monteiro who put down 42 kills.
  • Junior Katelyn Byrd and sophomore Ana Alonso Olea followed with 33 each.
  • Junior Carolina Bologna also made a difference on the attack, recording 28 kills to go with 21 defensive digs and 21 block assists.
  • Junior Konstantina Pateli was on top with assists, tallying 125 at 8.3 per set while freshman Michaella Guyot-Polverini had 25 assists.
  • Pateli also marked 14 kills and four service aces.
  • The back row was protected by sophomore Sawyer Hawgood who picked up a team-high 68 digs, averaging 4.3 per game.
  • Monteiro also contributed to the back row defense, posting a total of 59 digs while freshman Valentina Abondano had 36.
  • Junior Alice Amitrano finished with 34 digs and four service aces.
  • Fellow classmate Emily Kidd blocked (solo) a team-best eight attempts to go with eight block assists and 23 kills.

LAST GAME
  • Freshman Jaime Rodriguez and junior Rolando Sanchez connected twice to secure Rodriguez's first and second collegiate goals and WVU Tech's third win this season, 2-0, over St. Andrews.
  • After 90 minutes of play in Beckley, West Virginia Saturday afternoon, the Golden Bears move to 3-0-1 in 2018 while the Knights hold a record of 0-3.
  • A native of Madrid, Spain, Rodriguez received a pass from Sanchez with just 26 seconds taken off the clock for the lone goal in the first half.
  • Sanchez's second assist was marked in the second half (76') when he found Rodriguez again who put the ball past St. Andrew's keeper, Valentino Parini.
  • The team finished with three shots on goal including two from Rodriguez and one from junior Jesus Naves.
  • St. Andrews tallied just one shot on frame.
  • Junior Jose Domingo Xam-mar (3-0-1) is still undefeated defending the net for Tech, stopping one opponent attempt in the complete game.
  • Parini also made one save for the Knights.

RIVER STATES CONFERENCE (RSC) MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY PRESEASON POLL
  • Ohio Christian University is picked as the favorite in the 2018 River States Conference Men's Cross Country Preseason Coaches Poll.
  • WVU Tech also held steady placing fourth this preseason just as it did at the end of 2017.
  • The Golden Bears earned the remaining first-place vote and had 73 votes total.
  • The voting was conducted by the conference's head coaches prior to the first competition of the year.

RSC WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY PRESEASON POLL
  • Point Park University is predicted to repeat as league champions and tops the 2018 River States Conference Women's Cross Country Preseason Coaches' Poll.
  • WVU Tech tied IU East for sixth with 60 votes.
  • Voting was conducted by the RSC's head coaches prior to the first competition for any school.
