BECKLEY, West Virginia -- WVU Tech men's soccer secured its fifth victory in 2018 after defeating Shawnee State University 5-1 Saturday afternoon in Beckley, West Virginia. The Golden Bears move to 5-0-1 this season while the Bears fall to 2-3.
Tech saw five Golden Bears score including juniors
Eduardo Gutierrez,
Manuel Garcia and
Freddy Robayo, sophomore
Pablo Muniz Rocandio and freshman
Jaime Rodriguez. The goal from Rocandio was his first collegiate score while Robayo's was his first as a Golden Bear.
The assists were credited to sophomore
Renan Gouvia and seniors
Sergio Sanchez (2) and
William Adarkwah.
Shawnee State's goal was scored by Kevin deLang off the assist from Caspar Nolte.
Junior keeper
Jose Domingo Xam-mar (5-0-1) stopped one Shawnee State attempt and allowed just one goal in 90 minutes of play.
The loss was given to Shawnee's keeper, Kade Tomlinson, after 79 minutes of play, ten saves and four goals allowed.
The Gold and Blue recorded 19 shots on frame compared to the Bears' two shots on goal. Tech also held the advantage in corner kicks, 8-2.
WVU Tech will continue play when they travel to Virginia to face Bluefield College Wednesday, September 12.
