BECKLEY, West Virginia -- WVU Tech men's basketball, who is currently ranked No. 11 in the nation (NAIA DII), suffered its first River States Conference (RSC) loss this season, 102-98, to Brescia University Saturday in the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center. The Golden Bears now hold a record of 14-3, 5-1 (RSC) while the Bearcats move to 8-7, 5-1 (RSC).
Both teams are at the top of their respective leagues with Tech leading the East and Brescia on top in the West. No. 16 Indiana University East is currently a half a game back from the Gold and Blue in the East with a conference record of 4-1.
Senior
Elisha Boone led Tech with a double-double effort of 21 points and a game-best 16 rebounds. Boone also had two assists and a block.
Junior
Dominik King finished 4-for-6 from three-point range towards 16 points. King also posted four rebounds, two assists, a block and a steal.
Senior
Tommy Collins recorded 15 points, four rebounds and an assist. Fellow classmate
Brandon Shingles had 11 points, five assists and three rebounds.
The team shot 53.8 percent (35-for-65) from the field while holding the Bearcats to 48.0 percent (36-for-75) shooting. Brescia held the advantage in turnovers, forcing 21 Tech miscues while marking 12 themselves.
WVU Tech will return to the court Thursday, January 10 when they travel to University of Rio Grande to continue conference play.
