BECKLEY, West Virginia -- (RV) WVU Tech men's soccer was voted No. 26 in the nation (NAIA) Wednesday and stay undefeated after a 4-2 victory over University of Maine at Fort Kent. The Golden Bears now hold a record of 8-0-1 while the Bengals suffered their first loss in 2019 and are now 7-1-2.
UMFK started off the scoring in the ninth minute and Tech's equalizer came when freshman
Michael Barton found the back of the net in minute 27. Barton was assisted by senior
Sergio Sanchez.
The Gold and Blue's next score came from senior
Manuel Garcia who received the perfect pass from junior
Pablo Muniz Rocandio (32').
The third goal for Tech was awarded to freshman
Fletcher Caponecchia who posted his goal in the 32
nd minute off an assist from freshman
Ruben Martin Macias.
The Golden Bears' final score was posted by Sanchez off a free kick approximately 30 seconds into the second half.
Fort Kent marked the final goal of the match in the 84
th minute.
Protecting the net, senior
Jorge Martinez (8-0-1) made six stops in 90 minutes of play while allowing just one goal.
Tech will return to River States Conference play when they travel to Ohio Christian University Saturday.
