BECKLEY, West Virginia -- WVU Tech men's soccer, who is currently ranked No. 12 in the nation (NAIA), earned a 5-0 shutout over River States Conference (RSC) opponent Carlow University Saturday. The Golden Bears boast a flawless record of 15-0-1, 8-0 (RSC) while the Celtics move to 0-12, 0-7 (RSC).
Tech saw goals from five Golden Bears including freshman
Josue Nunez's first collegiate goal in the 89
th minute.
The first score was credited to senior
Carlos Tormo (13') followed by senior
Sergio Sanchez (17'), a made penalty kick from junior
Manuel Segarra (79') and freshman
Luis Alejandro Jaimes (79').
Assists were given to seniors
Rolando Sanchez and
Alvaro Tina and freshman
Oleg Tarshin.
Tech had two keepers protecting the net beginning with senior
Jorge Martinez (15-0-1) who posted two saves in the first 45 minutes while freshman
Luke Nilsson had one save in the second half of play.
Carlow's keeper, Adam Myers, was forced to stop 15 Golden Bear attempts and allowed five goals in 90 minutes.
The Golden Bears will finish out the regular season Saturday, November 2 when they travel to Indiana University East.
