BECKLEY, West Virginia -- (RV) WVU Tech men's basketball stopped a three-game losing streak after a 101-57 win over Wilberforce University in their home opener. The Golden Bears now hold a record of 3-4 while the Bulldogs move to 2-10.
Three Golden Bears recorded 17 points each including double-double efforts from junior
Tamon Scruggs who pulled down 15 rebounds and fellow classmate
Junior Arrey who had 11 boards.
Arrey also had a game-best seven assists and a steal while Scruggs posted three assists, a steal and a block.
Junior
Andreas Jönsson found his stride from three-point range, finishing 5-for-8 towards 17 points to go with two steals and a rebound.
Freshman
Andrew Work also hit double-digits for the Gold and Blue, coming off the bench to pour in 12 points while marking three rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Rounding out Tech's top scorers included junior
Juvante' Hayes (9) and senior
Kevin Thomas-Griffin (8). Hayes also had three boards and three assists while Griffin marked three rebounds, an assist, a block and a steal.
Senior
Dominik King finished with seven rebounds, three assists, four points and two blocks.
Freshman
Justin Phillips dished out five assists and had four points, three steals and two rebounds.
The Golden Bears finished 40-for-71 (56.3 percent) from the field while holding Wilberforce to just 22-for-65 (33.8 percent) shooting.
Tech also held the advantage in points off turnovers (19-11), second chance points (17-6), points in the paint (50-26) and fast break points (16-6).
The team will stay at home for their next contest when they host Campbellsville University Somerset on Saturday, November 23 at 5 p.m.
