BECKLEY, West Virginia -- WVU Tech men's basketball earned the regular season River States Conference Championship title after defeating rival University of Rio Grande 91-70 on Senior Day in the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center Saturday. The Golden Bears will enter the RSC Championship with a record of 26-4, 15-2 (RSC) and Rio Grande is at 12-18, 6-11 (RSC).
By taking the regular season, Tech has already punched its ticket to the NAIA DII Championship scheduled to be held March 6-12 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
As the No. 1 seed in the RSC East, Tech will host a quarterfinal Wednesday, February 20 in the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center. The Golden Bears will face No. 4 (West) Brescia University who enters the single-game elimination tournament with a record of 14-13.
Senior
Elisha Boone led all scorers with 22 points, including a perfect 7-for-7 effort from the foul line, to go with seven rebounds, six assists, three steals and a block.
Sophomore
Junior Arrey finished 2-for-2 from three-point range towards 14 points. Arrey also had three rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Senior
Tommy Collins poured in 13 points while grabbing seven boards. Collins also had one of each -- assist, block and steal.
Fellow senior
Brandon Shingles also hit double-digits, posting 11 points. He also had two assists, a steal and a rebound.
Senior
Cole Schoolcraft finished with three assists, three rebounds and a steal.
Brescia forced one of Tech's two conference losses with a 102-98 loss January 5 in Beckley. Redemption tipoff on Wednesday, February 20 is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
