Golden Bears earn conference sweep over Asbury

Softball

BECKLEY, West Virginia -- WVU Tech softball earned a River States Conference (RSC) doubleheader sweep over Asbury University Saturday with scores of 10-3 and 2-0. The Golden Bears now hold a record of 9-11, 2-2 (RSC) while the Eagles move to 2-10, 0-4 (RSC).

During the series, the Gold and Blue were led by Kennedy Batchelor who finished 4-for-5 at the plate towards three RBI and a run scored.

Kayte Blandford was 3-for-4 including two runs scored and a RBI. Kacie Cahill had three hits including a double and a triple while posting a RBI and four runs scored.

Ciara Jimenez knocked two doubles towards three hits, two RBI and a run scored while Lauren Oxford recorded two hits and two RBI.

As a team, Tech hit .400 while the pitching staff held the Eagles to just a .176 batting average over the series.

In the circle, Amanda McDonald got the start in game one, throwing for three innings of work and four strike outs. Taylor Dickerson struck out two batters and got the win after four innings to finish out the first contest.

Karina Atanacio pitched a complete game for the W in game two, recording four strike outs.

Up next, Tech will step out of conference play to host NCAA DII Glenville State College on Wednesday for a doubleheader at Woodrow Wilson High School.
