BRUNSWICK, Georgia -- WVU Tech volleyball kicked off its 2019 campaign Friday morning at the Mariner Invitational hosted by College of Coastal Georgia in Brunswick with a 3-0 victory over St. Andrews University. The Golden Bears defeated the Knights 25-17, 25-15 and 25-21.
Seniors
Katelyn Byrd and
Konstantina Pateli earned double-doubles to lead the Gold and Blue. Byrd finished with 15 digs and 14 kills while Pateli produced 37 assists and 18 digs in the match.
On defense, libero junior
Sawyer Hawgood and freshman
Brooklyn Cook picked up 16 digs each. Hawgood also finished with two service aces and two assists while Cook posted nine kills in her collegiate debut.
Junior
Ana Alonso Olea had eight kills, senior
Carolina Bologna put down six kills and senior
Emily Kidd marked five kills in the win.
The team will finish out the Mariner Invitational tomorrow, Saturday when they face Warner University at 9:00 a.m. followed by the host, Coastal Georgia, at 1:30 p.m.
