Volleyball finishes 3-1 at Emileigh Cooper Memorial Classic

RIO GRANDE, Ohio -- The Golden Bears of WVU Tech volleyball had a successful showing at the Emileigh Cooper Memorial Classic hosted by University of Rio Grande, finishing 3-1 over two days. Tech now holds a record of 6-2 in 2019.

The team defeated Shawnee State (3-1), Bluefield College (3-1), Rio Grande (3-2) and fell to Point Park University (2-3)

Senior Carolina Bologna had a standout weekend, posting 40 kills, 15 block assists, eight service aces and six block solos. The Vasto, Italy native also picked up 25 digs.

Fellow senior Katelyn Byrd put away 40 kills over four matches while posting 29 kills, ten block assists and two block solos.

Junior Ana Alonso Olea produced 32 kills, averaging 2.13 per set, and put down 11 block assists and one block solo.

Freshman Brooklyn Cook finished with 30 kills while seniors Emily Kidd had 26 and Konstantina Pateli marked 20.

Pateli tallied 155 assists, averaging 8.61 per set. She also had 58 digs and seven service aces.

On defense, junior Sawyer Hawgood led the back row with 105 digs to go with seven assists and two kills.

The team will return to play Friday, September 6 when they travel to Sylvania, Ohio for the Lourdes Gray Wolf Invite hosted by Lourded University.
