BALTIMORE, Maryland -- WVU Tech men's basketball now owns a 73-67 victory over NCAA DI Morgan State University after efficient play from the Golden Bears Saturday afternoon. The Gold and Blue boost their record to 4-4 while the Bears move to 2-2.
The team matched a season-best three's made, finishing 12-for-23 (52.2 percent) from beyond the arc. Senior
Tamon Scruggs led the way with 19 points including five made treys. Scruggs also pulled down a team-high six rebounds to go with four steals.
Fellow seniors
Juvante' Hayes and
Andreas Jonsson followed suit, making three a piece from long range while posting 13 points and four rebounds each.
Sophomore
Darrin Martin had another standout game, posting his second double-double of the season with 18 points and 11 assists. The Bluefield, West Virginia native also had three boards.
Freshman
Thomas Hailey poured in seven points and had four rebounds for Tech.
The Golden Bears finished 24-for-48 (50.0 percent) from the field and held Morgan State to a 24-for-54 (44.4 percent) effort. Tech forced 19 opponent turnovers and grabbed nine steals. The teams were about even under the net with 30 (Morgan State) and 29 (WVU Tech) rebounds.
WVU Tech will return to play with River States Conference action scheduled for January 5 when they host University of Rio Grande.
