PIKEVILLE, Kentucky -- WVU Tech softball split a doubleheader with scores of 1-2 and 2-1 at University of Pikeville Thursday. The Golden Bears now hold a record of 3-9 while the Bears move to 2-2.
During the series both
Ashleigh Sexton and
Mackenzie Siersma finished with three hits, a double and a RBI each.
Kelsey Moore posted the game-winning single in the final contest, driving in
Alexis Lopez off a shot to center field for the W.
In the circle, two Golden Bears pitched complete games towards career-highs in strike outs including 11 from
Karina Atanacio and 10 from
Courtney Miles.
Miles was awarded the win after 7.0 innings and just three hits. Atanacio pitched 6.0 innings allowing only four hits in game one.
Siersma, Miles and
Nicole Kester recorded one stolen base a piece.
Tech will next compete in its home opener when they host Ursuline College at Woodrow Wilson High School. The teams will play two games scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
