Doubleheader split with Ursuline

Softball

BECKLEY, West Virginia -- WVU Tech softball earned a 4-2 victory in game two after falling to Ursuline College 6-7 Monday afternoon. The Golden Bears now hold a record of 4-10 while the Arrows move to 2-6.

Senior Kayte Blandford finished 3-for-4 (.750) with a homerun, a double and three RBI. A native of Louisville, Kentucky, Blandford's three-run dinger helped lift the Gold and Blue past Ursuline in game two.

Fellow classmate Kelsey Moore hit .625 (5-for-8) during the series, recording three RBI, two doubles and two runs scored.

Freshman Mackenzie Siersma knocked her first collegiate homerun and recorded three RBI, three hits, two runs scored and a double.

Senior Ashley Daniels and sophomore Jacey Bertalan marked two hits each while junior Maddie Bowles and freshmen Nicole Kester and Ashleigh Sexton had one a piece.

Freshman Courtney Miles was awarded the W in the circle in the final contest after throwing a complete game. Miles struck out four batters while giving up just three hits.

Sophomore Taylor Dickerson drew the start in game one, pitching 3.1 innings and senior Karina Atanacio finished it out with 3.2 innings. Both pitchers retired an Arrow via strikes.

The team will stay at home, hosting Bluefield College Wednesday, March 11 for a doubleheader. The first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Woodrow Wilson High School.
