Golden Bears split doubleheader with Midway

BECKLEY, West Virginia -- WVU Tech softball battled in River States Conference (RSC) action against Midway University Friday, splitting a doubleheader with scores of 7-1 then 7-9. The Golden Bears now hold a record of 7-13, 1-5 (RSC) while the Eagles move to 16-20, 7-3 (RSC).

Freshman Gabby Pyles helped lead the way at the plate during the series, garnering four RBI, three hits and a double.

Seniors Karina Atanacio and Alexis Lopez finished with three hits and three RBI.

Sophomore Nicole Kester also marked three hits to go with four runs scored while fellow classmate Mackenzie Siersma drove in three runs on a double.

Sophomore Courtney Miles posted two hits while pitching a complete game towards eight strike outs and the W in game one. Miles threw 10.2 innings Friday, striking out a total of 12 batters.

Tech will return to conference action tomorrow, Saturday when they host Asbury University for another doubleheader at Woodrow Wilson High School.
