BRUNSWICK, Georgia -- WVU Tech volleyball started its 2021 campaign in Brunswick at the Mariner Invitational where they dropped the first two matches of four over two days. The Golden Bears first fell to Dillard University (14-25, 19-25, 25-21, 13-25) followed by Tennessee Wesleyan University (21-25, 22-25, 23-25).
Senior
Valentina Abondano led the way on defense in the back row, picking up 30 digs to go with five assists.
At the net, senior
Ariana Gentzler put down eight block assists and two blocks while recording nine kills and three digs.
Freshman
Savanna McMillion handled the ball, dishing 24 assists to go with seven digs and two kills.
Freshman
Alicia Cervera Sospedra led the attack with 12 kills. She also posted four block assists and two digs.
Sophomore
Ana Muñiz Rocandio posted 17 digs, seven digs and three service aces.
Senior
Coralys Maldonado Rivera had ten kills while sophomore
Samantha Price finished with seven.
Senior
Abigail Gregory helped on defense with 15 digs.
Tech will finish out the tournament tomorrow, Saturday when they face Tennessee Wesleyan (9 a.m.) for a second time then the host school, Coastal Georgia (5 p.m.). Live coverage is available for both matches and can be found at
