WILLIAMSBURG, Kentucky -- The Cumberlands Classic tipped off with a contest between (RV) WVU Tech and Campbellsville University Friday afternoon. The teams traded the lead many times but the Golden Bears ended up on top 74-71 to move to 2-1 this season, the same record the Tigers currently hold.
It was even at 35 after the first 20 minutes where redshirt sophomore
Bryce Radford led all scorers with 12 points. Junior
Andrew Work poured in 10 points and had six rebounds in the first half towards a total of the team's best 23 points and nine boards in the game.
The lead changed seven times in the final half and the Tigers had a seven point advantage with 10:20 but Tech continued to fight. With 2:53 left to play a made free throw from Work gave the Golden Bears the 65-64 lead and they didn't look back, outscoring Campbellsville 10-7 for the victory.
Radford finished with 18 points, five rebounds and two assists. Junior
Ashton Parker also hit double-digits, posting 12 points to go with six rebounds. Parker also made a statement at the boards, producing a game-high five blocks for the Gold and Blue.
Freshmen
Will Hill and
Saliou Diop ended with six rebounds each while Hill had six points and Diop had four. Junior
Keondre' King finished with seven points, three rebounds and three assists.
WVU Tech will finish the classic tomorrow, Saturday when they face host school University of the Cumberlands at 4 p.m.
