BECKLEY, W.Va. -- WVU Tech women's soccer hosted River States Conference (RSC) rival University of Rio Grande Thursday at Paul Cline Stadium and dropped the contest 1-0. The Golden Bears move to 3-9-1, 2-4 (RSC) while the RedStorm hold a record of 5-4-4, 5-0-2 (RSC).
Tech held the edge with shots on goal over Rio, 8-6, including three from sophomore
Isabella Covarrubias (Mexico). Freshman
Carson Barr (New Manchester, W.Va.) tallied two SOG while fellow classmates
Ares Canut (Altron, Catalunya, Spain),
Korinne Potter (Woodbridge, Va.) and
Maddie Lott (Fairmont, W.Va.) had one each.
Sophomore
Sandra Garcia Quilez (Zaragoza, Spain) protected the net for 90 minutes, making two saves and allowing zero goals. Rio's keeper, Morgan Nutter, was forced to stop eight Golden Bear attempts in the complete game.
The RedStorm's goal came in the 52nd minute from Morgan Fannin.
The Golden Bears will be back in action next Thursday, October 19 when they travel to Shawnee State University for a 4:30 p.m. kickoff.
