SAINT MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. -- WVU Tech men's soccer is the 2023 River States Conference (RSC) regular season champions after garnering a 9-0-1 conference record and defeating St. Mary-of-the-Woods College 4-0 Saturday afternoon. The Golden Bears are enjoying an 11-game no-loss streak and hold an overall record of 11-4-2 while the Pomeroys finish the season at 1-13-2, 1-8-1 (RSC).
Tech saw goals from four different Golden Bears including freshmen
Lorenzo Grispello (Milano, Italy) and
Vasco Berardo (Lisbao, Portugal), sophomore
Enrique Ezquerro Lopez (Pradejon, La Rioja, Spain) and senior
Alejandro Moreno (Barcelona, Spain).
Grispello was assisted by freshman
Marc Hernandez (Argentona, Barcelona, Spain) in the seventh minute while Berardo (9') and Lopez (55') scored unassisted. The final assist came from Berardo to Moreno in the 73rd minute.
Freshman
Ramon Ferrari (Nova Venécia, Espírito Santo, Brazil) was the net minder for the Gold and Blue, recording the clean sheet in 90 minutes of play while making one save. The Pomeroys' keepers were forced to stop five Golden Bear attempts and allowed four goals.
WVU Tech will host a first round game of the River States Conference Championship Saturday, November 4 at Paul Cline Stadium in Beckley, W.Va.
