BECKLEY, W.Va. -- (RV) WVU Tech men's basketball slipped past Carolina University 87-86 in the Golden Bears' home opener in the Beckley Raleigh County Convention Center. The score was knotted three times and their were four lead changes but Tech came out on top to improve to 3-0 while the Bruins move to 1-5 this season.
Senior
Andrew Work (Oak Hill, W.Va) had a game-best 31 points including a 17-for-20 effort from the foul line. Work also had three rebounds, a block and a steal.
Sophomore
Thomas Hailey (Rock Hill, S.C.) was two boards shy of a double-double with 18 points and eight rebounds to go with three assists and three steals.
Also hitting double-digits for the Gold and Blue was freshman
Braden Chapman (Beaver, W.Va.) who finished with 14 points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Sophomore
Brant Smithers (Williamstown, Ky.) added eight points and seven boards while freshman
Cameron Danser (Morgantown, W.Va.) had seven points.
Tech and Carolina finished even from the floor and under the boards, shooting 28-for-58 (48.3 percent) 32-for-66 (48.5 percent) from the floor while grabbing 35 rebounds each.
The Golden Bears will return to the court Wednesday, November 15 when they host Washington Adventist University at 7 p.m.
