Golden Bears compete at River States Conference Championship

Women's and Men's Track and Field

LOGAN, Ohio -- WVU Tech women's and men's track and field competed at the Indoor River States Conference (RSC) Championship Saturday. The men finished 12th and the women were 11th overall.

Carmen Camino Falcon found her way onto the podium after two second place showings including a 5:23.61 in the one mile and a 10:56.17 in the 3,000m.

Madelyn Grimmett competed in the 5,000m, finishing 11th with a 21:43.97. Jessica York finished 14th in the same event with a time of 23:06.65.

Grimmett, Camino Falcon, York and Taylor Sexton crossed with a time of 15:22.70 in the Distance Medley Relay.

Sexton was named the women's squad's Champion of Character Saturday. One individual from each school was nominated by their head coach for best displaying the NAIA's five character values of respect, responsibility, integrity, servant leadership and sportsmanship.

Ivan Martinez competed in the 600m, crossing at 1:34.12 for 12th place.

Samuel Whitcomb was 11th overall in the 800m with a time of 2:19.91.

Christian Saffouri finished with a time of 3:02.40 for 10th place in the 1000m.

Nathan Morton was ninth in the 3000m with a time of 9:09.93. Morton followed that with an eighth place showing in the 5000m run at 15:51.08.

The Distance Medley Relay team of Saffouri, Martinez, Whitcomb and Morton marked a time of 12:13.29 for eighth place.

Martinez was named the men's Champion of Character for this season.

The teams will move into the outdoor season next, traveling to Buckhannon, West Virginia for the Brandi Bown and Jasmine Claggett Memorial Invite March 10.
